Have you ever been asked ”How long will it take to test this”? Or, “how many test cases will it take”? Or perhaps “we are out of time, stop testing, we are releasing tomorrow. By the way, how much of the software is not tested?”
Wouldn't it be useful to have an objective measure of how many test cases should be executed against a particular piece of software? Test effort estimate and test coverage would then be a breeze to determine.
This presentation will explore the 6 known white-box test strategies and how to calculate the number of test cases required. We will identify the one which is the FDA’s endorsed method as well as the two most useful metrics: the minimum number of test cases and the test effectiveness ratio. Last but not least, you cannot analyze white-box testing without understanding complexity metrics.
Active audience participation and contributions are ACTIVELY encouraged.
Ron McClintic is an IT professional with over 20 years of experience in all phases of software development and project management, with a focus on SQA. He has spoken and written at the local and national level on several SQA topics, with a focus on applied metrics.
