You've heard of 12-step programs that help change behavior. Did you know the same principles can be applied to organizational change via software process improvement. Kent Schnaith describes how the 12-step principles were used to guide a CMM-based improvement program at Fisher-Rosemount Systems, Inc. in Burnsville, MN.
Kent Schnaith started with Fisher-Rosemount Systems, Inc. (FRSI) in 1980. He was a software developer on the RS3 program control system and took over as lead of an informal Software Engineering Process Group (SEPG) in the fall of 1997. He became the Project Manager of the Software Process Improvement (SPI) project in the spring of 1998. The SPI project continued until the FRSI announced closing of the Burnsville facility. Kent is now with West Group.
