Six Short Talks About Software Testing Software testing is questioning a product in order to evaluate it, but the process itself leads to big questions. How do you know what to test? What kinds of problems should you look for? How can you tell when you're seeing a problem? How do you know where to test? Why didn't you find that bug? Why does testing take so long? In this presentation, Michael Bolton gives six short talks on software testing, with plenty of time for questions, answers, and discussion in between each one. Michael will talk about

* requirements vs. requirements documents

* oracles--the principles by which we recognize problems;

* emotions that trigger our recognition of problems;

* ways to think about test coverage;

* why it's not enough to show that the product works;

* and one big reason why testing takes so long.

Michael Bolton has been teaching software testing on five continents for eight years. He is the co-author (with senior author James Bach) of Rapid Software Testing, a course that presents a methodology and mindset for testing software expertly in uncertain conditions and under extreme time pressure. He is also the Program Chair for TASSQ, and a co-founder of the Toronto Workshops on Software Testing. He has a regular column in Better Software Magazine, writes for Quality Software (the magazine published by TASSQ), and very sporadically produces his own newsletter. Michael lives in Toronto, Canada, with his wife and two children. He can be reached at mb@developsense.com, or through his Web site, http://www.developsense.com
